The Pantanal is an incredibly wilderness, however, the Paraguay river is planned to be turned into a water way and build ports. I have included 2 videos for you to look at (depending on how much time you have). The video above is around 4 minutes, while the below is a full documentary 50 minutes.
If this waterway and port is created, it will be the end of the Pantanal. From giant otters, to jaguar and armadillos, this place is essential for the survival of various species.
I will aim to keep an eye on this situation – it is similar to the former plan to run a full motorway through the Serengeti. This plan in Tanzania was considered between 2005 and 2012, but the problem was that it would have ended the migration, and there would have been a collapse in mammal species in the park.
This would be horrific for the Pantanal, but is also likely to have a huge impact on tourism for the country, as well as in Brazil.
It is being suggested that this is progress, but obviously it is not.
The Pantanal is an area with 1200 rivers and streams, and has an incredible area of boidiversity.
