Bluefin tuna being sighted in British waters more and more

Bluefin tuna is usually thought of quite an exotic fish species. Our desire for eating tuna has been a real problem as it has pushed many different species of tuna far too close to extension.

Global warming zone appears to be bringing the range of bluefin tuna into British waters, at the moment it is just occasional sightings but they are becoming more common.

There is therefore a suggestion that we should make make the waters around the UK a safe haven for tuna, which if the seas continue to warm could become an important part of the range.

It should be noted that the sighting of tuna off the coast of the UK is not a new thing. Back in the 30s before they were overfished they were relatively common sight.

We need to make sure that fishing levels are kept low enough that they can recover to their former numbers. As highly efficient predators, their presents can be hugely beneficial for the entire ecosystem. Already tourist boats are starting to go looking for them, if they are well looked after and their numbers improve we could be talking about a significant amount of tourist money entering the area.
