Spiders which are the size of a human hand, are making a comeback in the UK.
These spiders can grow to the size of rats, and they walk on the surface of water. More terrifying, they can reach down under the water, and catch fish to eat. Known as the raft spider, they lived in wetlands, however these wetlands were drained during the 19th century. In the 20th century, they almost disappeared, with just 3 sites retaining these arachnid’s.
RSPB and Chester zoo worked together to save this species, and now there are thought to be 10,000 across the UK. They are doing best in Norfolk and Suffolk,
Despite their huge size, they run across the surface of water, and eat things like dragonfly, as well as small aquatic animals, like small fish and tadpoles, are cannot hurt humans.
