Snares penguin

Also known as the Snare crested penguin or North East Island penguin; 

other colonies are established on Broughton Island as well as the rocky Western Chain. The snare  penguin, is from new Zealand, and breeds on snares island, off the coast of new Zealand’s southern island. They form colonies either in the open or under forest cover< and they range from 10 individuals up to 1200.

The main colonies are located on The main colonies are located on North East Island; other colonies are established on Broughton Island as well as the rocky Western Chain.

The Snares penguin’s mostly eat krill, alongside squid and small fish. The species is rated as vulnerable by the IUCN as its breeding range is restricted to one small island group. The population is estimated at around 25,000 breeding pairs.
