A striped hyena in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan has a range of habitats and these support a wide range of animal life. There are 83 species of mammal recorded in the country, some of which are threatened. There are bats in the caves, leopards, bears, mountain sheep, wild ass and goitered gazelles in the mountains, and seals in the Caspian Sea.

Sand, clay and gypsum deserts, river valleys, oases and mountains are the main ecosystems of Turkmenistan. Deserts cover the major (more than 80%) area of the country, followed by the mountains ecosystems, then oases and river ecosystems. Marine ecosystems are found along the west edge of the country, where the Caspian sea lies. This is a fully enclosed sea, which means that it is rather different to most other seas of the world.. Each of these ecosystems have their own wildlife, and over time, I hope to be able to list all these along with places that you can visit and the resources to see the most of the wild in this country.

News from the website is listed below. Below that, is a short video about the wildlife in this country. Below that, as we make contacts these will appear there, and will give you all the resources to plan your wildlife visit to the country
