All from the order Strigiformes, there are 2 families – the barn owls (Tytonidae family) and the true owls (Strigidae family). I hope in the future to have pages for each of these species, but for now here are the pictures.
So firstly covering the Strigidae subfamily, which is broken into 3 groups Ieraglaucinae: Nirox (35 living species), Uroglaux (1 species), and then group Surniinae: Aegolius (5 species, 4 surviving), Athene (9 species), Glaucidium (29 species: pygmy owls), Surnia (northern hawk-owl), Margarobyas (bare-legged owl, position uncertain), Taenioptynx (2 species), Micrathene (elf owl), Xenoglaux (long-whiskered owlet).
The last group of Strigidae is Striginae. This family includes Otus (58 species Scops owls), Asio (9 species), Ptilopsis (2 species), Jubula (maned owl), Bubo (10 species – eagle-owls, horned hows and snowy owl), Ketupa (12 species; fish owls and eagle-owls, Scotopelia (3species fishing owls), Megascops (25 species, Screech owls), Gymnasio (Puerto Rican owl), Psiloscops (flammulated owl), Strix (22 species, Earless owls), Lophostrix (crested owl) and Pulsatrix (3 species)
