A former part of Yugoslavia, it was previously known as Macedonia, however it had had problems within the EU and other bodies, as an internal part of Greece is also known as Macedonia, which meant that until it changed its name, it was hard for it to join any international group.
North Macedonia hosts 150-200 bears, around 400 wolves and a handful of the Bankan lynx (there are only 50 and these are shared between 3 countries. It is possible that in the time of ancient Greece there would have been lions here as well as within Greece.
