Electric cars

Electric cars were long thought of as little more than cars on a milk-float engines. That was until a few recent moves. There had been popular models, but the manufacturers was always hesitant, in case they took away their sales of combustion engine cars.

That all changed when tesla launched. There were other models that were launched before this – that is true, but no company had ever tried to build an electric car which people would aspire to own. The Tesla S was an expensive car, but it was also a luxurious one. The model that followed – the tesla x (above) was a do everything car, to show that electric cars are better in all ways: want a car which can carry 7 people? Want a car which can pull a heavy caravan? Want a car which despite its large size, is incredibly fast off the line -2.5 seconds 0-60?

But after this, tesla finally looked to make cars that were less expensive. The tesla 3 was the car that really gave all the other car makers a kick and required them to start making electric cars themselves (though on many metrics, the majority of these cars are still beaten by tesla, whether by price or efficiency). This car terrified all other car manufacturers, as tesla received 325,000 pre orders.

There is still plans that in the next year, they launch the so called tesla model 2, being far cheaper (but also likely smaller) which is expected to be a sub 20k electric car.

As you can imagine, everyone is trying to catch up with tesla. At the same time, there is a big desire for people to do the right thing, and cut emissions. An electric car will instantly cut your carbon footprint by 7-8 metric tonnes per year.
