Cameroon

The UN puts the amount of forest cover at 42%, though other sources suggest a number as high as 48%. 19.2% of this area is protected within a series of reserves and national parks.

The Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee (500-1450 in the country), the central African Chimpanzee, the cross-river gorillas (300 split between Cameroon and Nigeria), and the western lowland gorilla (I am unsure of the numbers).

Golden angwantibo, Calabar angwantibo, Potto, Bioko Allen’s bushbaby, Cross River bushbaby, Senegal bushbaby, Prince Demidoff’s bushbaby, Thomas’s bushbaby, Southern needle-clawed bushbaby, Northern needle-clawed bushbaby, Allen’s swamp monkey, Gabon talapoin, Patas monkey, Tantalus monkey, Red-tailed monkey, Moustached guenon, Red-eared guenon, Mona monkey, De Brazza’s monkey, Greater spot-nosed monkey, Crowned guenon, Preuss’s monkey, Grey-cheeked mangabey, Olive baboon, Collared mangabey, Drill, Mandrill, Mantled guereza, Black colobus, Red colobus, Pennant’s colobus

Other than primates, there is a range of other species, including 3 species of pangolin (Giant pangolin, Long-tailed pangolin, Tree pangolin). There are a wide range of cetaceans found off the coast.

Predators include Lion, Leopard, Serval African golden cat and the caracal.

Spotted hyena and stripped hyena are present, along with the African golden wolf, African wild dog, Pale fox and the Side-stripped jackal.

Honey badgers live here, along with Speckle-throated otter, African clawless otter, Congo clawless otter.

There are a wide array of rodents, antelope and species like hippo that complete the countries line up.

There are 10 national parks within the country, and adding in the reseres, a total of 33% of the country is conserved in some way. 

As with many other places, it is our responsibility to visit where we can, in order to not make that a bad choice.
