Using the term from Africa, the so called “big 5” the countries so called big 5, include the Wolf, Caucasian brown bear, Leopard, Jenran (a from of gazelle) and the Imperial eagle. Other species include lynx, Asiatic wildcat, European badger, stone marten, red and roe deer, chamois, East Caucasian ibex, Caucasian squirrel, field mice, and Daghestan pine vole. 

There are also 3 cats that have been lost in the last few centuries (in the evolutionary scale, 3 centuries is nothing, so in theory, all species could be returned, so long as we can give them the space to survive) Asiatic cheetah, locally extinct since the 18th century, Caspian tiger (the Caspian tiger has been found, in recent years, to be too similar to the Amur tiger to be classed separately, and the two populations were only split in the last 200 years) , extinct since the beginning of the 20th century and Asiatic lion extinct since the Middle Ages.

What we should do, in terms of these 3 recently lost species is an issue that is being discussed in the country. There is much discussion as to whether the tiger should be returned, though local people have suggest that there is not space (this is extremely hard decision to justify rationally on any of these species). 

Protected areas include more than 10% of the country (interestingly, this only accounts for 3.7% of the national parks.
